Sharing the news with delWine, an excited Sonal who runs Sonal Holland Wine Academy in Mumbai, says, ‘I am delighted to begin my journey towards attaining the Master of Wine qualification.’
"It is good that you have chosen the academic route to pursue a career in wine. Your aim should be to be a Master of Wine (MW) which is a tough qualification to achieve but in the end, it will be worth all the pain and effort," was the advice given to her by Subhash Arora, says Holland in an email message to him in which she reminisces about, ‘your advice to me when we sat at the Taj Mahal Hotel, Mumbai sipping coffee at the Shamiana restaurant some two and a half years ago. I remember feeling inspired and very encouraged by your words.’
Sonal finished her Advanced Diploma a few months back. We wish her luck in being the first Indian to achieve the coveted ‘title’ and encourage young wine professionals from India to target an Advance Diploma from WSET and then pursue the tough and possibly frustrating, but highly rewarding MW programme for the successful few. She would, in all likelihood be the first Indian woman to become an MW if and when she finishes the programme successfully. She is the first Indian woman to join the programme.
