Organisers of the festival being held at the Hippodrome in Beirut poured around 100 bottles of Lebanese wines of all colours-reds, whites and Rosé, sponsored by various wineries across the nation, and the glass made from plexiglass, was not even quarter full. Organisers said winemakers from across the country had contributed their produce as part of a campaign to promote Lebanese wine, half of which is exported.
"This glass brings together all the wine producers in Lebanon," said Nedar Farah, the creator of the wineglass on Friday at the unveiling.
The previous record was created in Portugal in 1998 when the glass measuring 1.51 m high and 1.46 m at the widest point was accepted as the world’s biggest wine glass.
Lebanon has also claimed the world's biggest servings of kibbeh and tabbouleh, traditional meat and salad dishes, and the biggest bowl of hummus.
It may not be a difficult record to break for India if the IGPB- Indian Grape Processing Board applies its mind and in conjunction with the wineries and a Plexiglas producer comes up with the biggest wine glass that will make a perfect display in the atrium-lobby of the Ministry of Food Processing Industries at the Asian Games Village in Delhi, that can also double up at various promotions. A company like Riedel may chip in to bring out the perfect shape of a Bordeaux glass- perhaps from their Sommelier series, which would be a great publicity for them in the growing Indian market for wine glasses. It will definitely help the Board towards the cause of promoting Indian wine. |
