The 2-day program for Level-1 will be conducted at Hotel Hyatt Regency, Sahar Airport Road, Andheri West, on June 17-18 from 9:30 am to 6:30 pm including one-hour lunch. The contents of the program will include: General knowledge of Italy -geography and agri-climatic zones, Historical facts on Italy and the History of Italian wines, Italian Wines and Regions, Wine and Society, with a specific focus on major wines from one Italian macro-region. The course will consist of frontal presentations by a faculty of Indian and Italian wine experts. There will be interactive exercises amongst participants and wine tastings and wine & food pairings.
‘At the end of the program, the participants will be able to describe wines tasted, after sensory analysis based on Body, Tannins, Fruits and Flowers, Read and interpret wine labels, Pair typical food and wine from one Italian macro region, and tell a short story focusing on some particular wine and food from the region,’ explains Claudio Maffioletti, Secretary General of the Indo-Italian Chamber of Commerce in India- Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai and Kolkata. He stressed the interactive nature of the course which is also meant to instil confidence about Italy, Italian wine and culture amongst the participants.
The course follows the first initiative of IICCI, the recent Launch at Hotel Trident in Mumbai of the First Awareness Programme for the project “Angels of Italian Wine in India – Training Programs for Experts of Italian Wine Culture”.
The programme was attended by 25 participants, mainly representatives from hotels and restaurants, magazines, wine importers, retailers and people passionate about Italy. A Release by IICCI says, ‘Outstanding faculty included Cav. Subhash Arora from Delhi, who is an internationally recognized expert in Italian wine, conducted the 2-day programme. Supported by ENIT (Italian Tourism Agency), Trident Oberoi (IICCI sponsor of this initiative) and Aspri Spirits and Kiara Wines (wine importers), there was an excellent feedback from participants.’
‘The Awareness Course program confirmed the growing interest for an international community of recognized professionals in promoting products along with the uniqueness of Italian Culture, suitably trained by an Italian institution abroad,’ says Maffioletti.
‘We are very proud and excited to launch the project, the very first program in India aiming at training and preparing experts for Italian wineand wine cultureaccording to a set ofcompetences defined and recognized by Italian stakeholdersin the wine industry. The uniqueness of the programme is that the participants will have to appear in an exam and be certified by an independent third party, ICMQ India. Therefore the level co competency will be equally recognised in other parts of the world as well,’ he informed delWine.
‘Certification is a means of providing assurance that a person attending a training course meets the requirements of a certification scheme. Confidence in the respective schemes is achieved by means of a globally accepted process of assessment, subsequent surveillance and periodic re-assessments of the competence of certified person,’ says Claudio.
‘Aafter completing the Lele 1 course, the participants will be give a Participation Certificate issued by the Indo-Italian Chamber of Commerce, that will make them eligible to take part in the exam to acquire the certificate issued by ICMQ India and be known as Alfiere Italico-Wine Cultore,’ says Claudio.
Training Programs for Experts of Italian Wine and Italian Wine Culture will also be organised subsequently in Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, and Bangalore.
This training program is part of the newly established Italics Wine Club, an answer to the increasing popularity of wine in the country and an even stronger demand for knowledge of Italian wines and Italian wine culture. Participating in the ‘Angels of Italian Wine India ‘ will automatically entitle you to become a member of Italics Wine Club.
Every Italics Wine Club will periodically organize Wine Tours to Italy. This type of tourism will help Indian people to know the beauty of territories and culture related to wine-e.g. Franciacorta (Lombardy), Valdobbiadene (Veneto), Chianti (Tuscany) and Langhe Piedmont etc, besides the traditional and main Italian touristic destinations.
The program is suitable for food and wine journalists who want their knowledge on wine to reach unparalleled heights or those into wine sales and marketing and who need new arguments to increase their client base.
