Dec 20: Reva K Singh, Publisher & Editor-in-Chief of Sommelier India, the first and only wine magazine in print in India, continues the journey of reporting and educating through the magazine and is one of the Top Ten Women of Wine in India for the third consecutive time
Master of English Literature, former university lecturer in English and a magazine journalist, Reva K. Singh has devoted her time on communicating about wine with the goal of nurturing the growth of wine culture in India. In the early 2000s, while still producing the corporate magazine of The Oberoi Hotels and Resorts, which she raised to a level of excellence comparable to the best international hotel magazines, she took the bold step of founding India’s first wine magazine, Sommelier India (SI), a glossy consumer, bi-monthly (once every two months) distributed digitally and in print.
A veteran of the Indian publishing industry, Reva has led or been on the editorial team of several high profile publications in India and abroad over her 30-year publishing career. Her long years in magazine publishing were preceded by six years of teaching English Literature to college students.
Reva was a founding member of The Wine Society of India serving on its Board of Wine Advisors. In 2009 she founded the short-lived Sommelier India Wine Competition (www.siwc.in) of which she was co-chairperson with Steven Spurrier. Now, as head of the Sommelier India Tasting Panel, she organizes regular blind tastings to select and recommend the best Indian and international wines to consumers in India.
As the founder and editor-in-chief of Sommelier India, Reva gets the privileged opportunity to travel and taste a variety of wines from around the world. This has built her knowledge base, a knowledge that she gladly shares with her readers.
With the magazine well established, she is moving towards other avenues of wine communication and education. She says, “Having passed WSET Level 2 with distinction three years ago from Chêne Bleu Extreme Wine Course at La Verrière, in the south of France, my goal now is to deepen my knowledge of wine through travel and study, and make my way up to the next levels by writing and communicating more and spending less time dotting i’s and crossing t’s. I want to teach, write more, travel for pleasure and spend time with my grandsons now.”
We welcome Reva to the Top Ten List of Women of Wine 2017 for the third time.
