Sep 07: The 13th edition of the annual global wine tourism conference and trade event for the wine and culinary tourism industry, is being organised by The International Wine Tourism Conference (IWINETC) at the new 5-star hotel- The Lodge Wine & Business Hotel in Vila Nova de Gaia (Porto) on 26-27 October 2021 in partnership with the Porto & North of Portugal Tourism Board, writes Subhash Arora
IWINETC is organising this event, in partnership with the Porto & North of Portugal Tourism Board, with two days of plenary talks, panel discussions, case studies, and speeches. There will be half a day of one-to-one business meetings, a comprehensive networking programme. Several post tour programmes to visit the four wine regions defined in the newly launched Wine Tourism Routes namely Douro and Porto, Vinho Verde, Távora-Varosa and Trás-os-Montes will add to the excitement.
As in previous editions of IWINETC, the exhibitors, B2B Workshop providers, Hosted Buyers and Media will benefit from IWINETC’s bespoke appointment system, matching business needs of the delegates with the services of the suppliers to ensure they meet with people with whom there is a good chance of doing business.
This 2- day Conference programme will leave attendees inspired to apply their learnings to their place of work and/or businesses. Speakers already confirmed include Judith Lewis, Chris Torres, Peter Syme and Felicity Carter. Additional expert speakers will be announced soon.

This event returns to Porto after 10 years. Things have changed tremendously and for the better, with the wines of Porto and Douro commanding a lot more respect and panache. Wine Tourism facilities have improved in a big way, Portugal and more specifically Porto, has been a ‘Flavour of the Year’, with tourism improving exponentially during the last few years. Douro red wines find a place among the top red wines in Europe, at much cheaper prices.
Anthony Swift, Event Director of IWIETC, says, ‘it would be interesting to see the huge development that has taken place in wine and culinary tourism in Porto and the North of Portugal region. Our partner, Porto & North of Portugal Tourism Board, has planned a comprehensive schedule, full of sessions with practical application for our delegates. It is a great opportunity for wine and culinary tourism professionals to enrich their knowledge and experience of Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia with targeted learning, business and networking opportunities that complement the event experience.”

Luís Pedro Martins, President of the Tourism Board, says, ‘Such events bring to the region the awareness that we aim to achieve when comparing with other destinations especially while we still face a pandemic period worldwide. We need to prove internationally that the region has everything to offer with the security everyone is looking for. The event is aligned with our strategy for the Wine Tourism Route. We look forward to the first B2B marketing action for this Route at this Conference.
The event is expected to welcome about 250 delegates from around 25 countries, and hopefully India would be one of these countries though any of our global subscribers in the wine and culinary tourism business directly or indirectly, may write directly to Anthony Swift at info@winepleasures.com or to Sofia Lopes at marketing@portocvb.com for Registration details to attend IWINETC 2021.
Having attended their Conferences in Champagne, Barcelona and Hungary, I can say with conviction that the event has a lot to offer to the wine connoisseurs-especially those who love Portugal and their wines- more specifically the hilly area production, where tradition meets the contemporary and with huge amount of indigenous grape variety.
