In an innovative social wine experience, the moonlit harvesting of Chardonnay will be streamed live on August 10, enabling wine-lovers all over the world to watch the moonlit grape picking on their computers and mobile devices and experience all its enchantment. Owners of the estate, José and Antonio Rallo will be at hand to share the experience and answer any questions on Facebook, making it an interactive experience.
Claiming to be a first such experience perhaps in the world but certainly in Italy, the viewers may not be able to enjoy the fragrance of the grape but the Rallos will narrate what’s happening at the Chardonnay vineyards and explain how night-time harvesting protects all the fragrances of the grapes and makes for considerable energy savings.
There will be two live broadcasts, the first in Italian at 10 pm (0130 IST) and the second in English at 12:30 am (0400 IST), both of which can be actively followed on the Facebook Tab, chatting with and asking the Rollos questions which will be answered live and commenting on Twitter through #donnafugatalive.
The live stream from the vineyard will take you from grape to glass through a guided tasting of 4 wines born at the Contessa Entellina estate: La Fuga Chardonnay, the enological expression of the nocturnal harvest; Chiarandà, the winery’s high-end Chardonnay and Donnafugata’s two reds, Tancredi and Mille e una Notte-imported in India by Aspri Wines and Spirits.
In the background there will also be live coverage of Calici di Stelle (Goblets of Stars), the traditional summer Wine Tourism Movement event that yearly brings hundreds of visitors to the Donnafugata estate, located 60km from Palermo.
The live stream will enable wine connoisseurs to also taste the wines at home with friends or those attending one of the events being held at restaurants, wine shops and wine bars in Italy and other countries where the stream will be screened and a tasting offered of one or more of the four wines chosen.
‘Thanks to the web and the live streaming technology, on Facebook we will also interact with the people watching the night harvest and tasting our wines with us. Experiencing the streaming will be possible at home with friends or outside in wine bars, restaurants’, Ms. Jose Rollo informs delWine. The list of such restaurants is expanding and is available on the above sites.
In Mumbai, Aspri is planning to organise the live streaming and wine tasting at the Pali Village Café in Bandra and possibly other venues, says Sumedh Singh Mandla, CEO of the company. He adds, ‘We are very excited to promote this concept in India and it will be a great learning experience for our team as well as our customers across India.
