Earlier this year, the 12th edition held at the same venue welcomed 31,000 visitors, with 28% coming from abroad. Wine professionals including 9,000 buyers from 70 countries attended the 3- day wine trade fair on February 15-17 when 1650 exhibitors participated. This strictly-for-professionals trade fair has established itself as one of the top 5 wine shows in the world in the 20-year period that it has been organised as a biennial wine fair. It has been organised every alternate years when Vinexpo was not being held; Vinisud in even years while Vinexpo is in June of every odd year.
Because of the success and its increasing demand, the Fair has decided to go Annual from next year when it will be held on January 29- 31; the date announced after the Show this year earlier was February 20-22, 2017 at the same venue. Many potential export clients, wine professionals and wine critics visited the fair- including a representative of Indian Wine Academy, tasting the winemakers’ comprehensive range of wines and reported in delWine as under:
Vinisud 2016: Mediterranean vineyards No. 1 Producer and Exporter Globally
Vinisud 2016: Mecca for tasting unusual Mediterranean wines
Vinisud 2016: The Promise of a Great Vintage
The three Buzzwords for 2017
Vinisud has coined 3 buzzwords for the 2017 edition
1. Expertise
2. Discovery
3. Sharing
The ambition remains to be the international showcase for southern wines for 3 days and the motto is still “Passionately Mediterranean”.
VINISUD EXPERTISE
B2B meetings: Vinisud 2017 will once again offer exhibitors and buyers a programme of business meetings and networking using a scheduling tool. This will be done under the umbrella of Adhesion Group, the organisers of the exhibition and experts in scheduling B2B meetings since 1984.
Buyers programme: Vinisud will guarantee the presence of 400 new international buyers originating from synergistic networks, 200 distributors, importers, major players attending the World Wine Meetings organised across 3 markets -Americas, Europe and Asia. Additionally, 200 buyers will be recruited for the “Forum International d’Affaires” (FIA).
VINISUD DISCOVERY
Unique tasting areas: Vinisud offers buyers an alternative approach by creating themed self‐service tasting zones: red, rosé, white, natural sweet, organic wines, Bag‐in‐Box, Sparkling Zone etc. This has become a very important differentiator. One can walk around tasting hundreds of samples without being disturbed or influenced by the producers or distributors. One can taste at one’s own pace and make visits as often as necessary. It can be a great learning experience for the wine importers and other professionals alike. After tasting, one can visit the related producers for negotiations and discussions, if short-listed. The information about each wine showcased is quite exhaustive at the table.
Mediterranean Expression by Vinisud:
Unusual Grape Varieties: Mediterranean regions without exception have been involved with viticulture for centuries and have unique and, at times, rare grape varieties in their regions. Vinisud is renewing it’s partnership with Wine Mosaic, providing the opportunity to discover rare and unusual grape varieties . It also promotes another popular and important Mediterranean product, olive oil.
VINISUD SHARING
New Wave winegrowers: an exhibition area dedicated to newborn winegrowers, showcasing the work of new entrants to the industry. The 2017 edition will offer a chance to check out the maiden vintage of some of these newcomers, celebrating the efforts of all these wine enthusiasts helping to drive the sector forwards by taking the plunge. These will be present in the Vinisud ‘New Wave’ stand.
Vinisud Wine Tourism: This is an extensive exhibition area hosted in partnership with www.winetourisminfrance. com. The Wine tourism stand is an ideal location to keep up with the latest trends and developments including various mobile apps, interactive maps etc. One can share the joy of an activity typical of wine‐growing regions worldwide. In 2017, visitors will be able to explore regional products, with a dedicated picnic area, and reserve accommodation in a winery or estate via the “Vinisud in the Vineyards” booking app, a service designed to consolidate relations between producers and buyers.
The Show is not a mini-Vinexpo; it does not even compete with Vinexpo but it is smaller in size and more focused on wines from the Mediterranean countries like Italy, Greece and Morocco- besides France which is the biggest participating country, especially from the South. It complements Vinexpo and is a must for those interested in wines from South of France as also the Mediterranean countries. For sommeliers, wine educationists and journalists it offers expertise for the wines in the Mediterranean.
