The initiative, the first of its kind in Asia, will provide Asia’s F&B trade and wine enthusiasts an opportunity to hear the influential Bordeaux-based enologist, with over a hundred clients across twelve countries including India where he has been consulting with Grover Vineyards since its inception.
‘The objective of the series is to honour wine personalities who are recognised globally for their significant contributions to the wine industry. Under the series, one global wine personality will be invited to Singapore each year during the Wine for Asia, to share his or her life evolution philosophy and views in wine with a pan-Asian audience,’ says Sylvia Phua, CEO of MP International, co-organisers of the Show.
Rolland will start off the inaugural series with a session on ‘Forging Iconic Wines for Markets- Old and New’ on 27 October at Suntec with Lisa Perrotti Brown, Singapore’s only Master of Wine, as the moderator. Participants will have the opportunity to taste a range of wines from wineries which are either owned by Michel Rolland or consulted by him. They include Clos de los Siete 2008 (Mendoza, Argentina), Clos Apalta 2007 (Colchagua Valley, Chile) Château Le Bon Pasteur 2005 (Pomerol, France) and Ornellaia 2007 (Tuscany, Italy)
Later in the evening he will share his own personal evolution at the Wine Style Asia Award gala dinner to be held at Conrad Hotel followed by a tasting of Château Le Bon Pasteur 1999 and 2008. Over 200 award winning wines from Wine Style Asia Award 2010, being held just before the Show, will also be available for tasting for the ‘pre-registration only’ event.
There will be a special dinner honouring Michel on 28 October. He is also scheduled to attend the F&B and wine industry roundtable discussion. He is expected to make a special guest appearance at the Chilean 90+ Wines Media and F&B Tasting at WFA to be followed by ‘The Michel Rolland Dinner’ featuring wines from his own Bordeaux estates.
Asian Riesling Forum is another interesting new initiative, which will see a line-up of top quality Riesling producers from around the world, sharing the characteristics of their Riesling. Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW will moderate the event where Joel Payne, the renowned wine journalist and editor of the German Wine Guide, will be the lead speaker.
There are several other interesting programmes designed for visitors- some new and several regular features. For details on these and information on how to ensure that you meet Michel Rolland- the first 50 visitors to the ‘Rendezvous with Michel Rolland’ event will receive free pre-autographed bottles of Val de Flores 2004, a Malbec from Mendoza, Argentina, visit www.wineforasia.com. |
