DWWA 2023: No Gold but 8 Medals for India at Decanter Awards
India has won 2 Silver Medals and 6 Bronzes.
To put things in perspective, China which was not much ahead of India 30 years ago has won 272 medals, ostensibly because the government there had taken a focused stand supporting wines at that time. And possibly not very tight laws dictating blending of foreign wines with the local product might have helped.
Sula Vineyards had dominated the Awards in 2022 for India, bagging 7 Awards with Moet Hennessy bagging 2 Awards totaling 9 medals for India Sula had won 4 Silvers and 1 Bronze whereas Moet Hennessy had won a Silver and a Bronze each-though their 2 variants maintaining the same medal positions.

Sula was at its pinnacle in 2020 winning 14 medals while Chandon won medals in both the variants, Brut and Rose Extra Dry, thus totaling 16 medals-highest ever.
Despite their regular participation and improved quality, this is one Award where India has not been able to crack a Gold in the Awards’ History. Sula did win a Gold for Tropicale Brut last year at the International Wine Challenge (IWC).

With Australia wooing the Indian market with its premium wines-especially after the signing of the FTA, it was an excellent performance by Australian wines which received 20% of the total awards represented across the Best Show, Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze awards, making it a country with the best wines in the world for 2023.
