Wine Park introduces Five New Labels from Old World
Vishal Kadakia, founder and head of Wine Park has launched two wines from an organic winemaker Domaine Guiberteau from the Loire Valley, one Germany Pinot Noir from Rudolf Fürst in Franconia and St. Urbans-Hof of Mosel and a modern white wine produced from the local grape Loureiro by Quinta do Ameal in Portugal’s Vino Verde region.
Wine Park has included two wines from the Loire Valley. The organic winemaker Domaine Guiberteau is at the forefront of Loire’s modern wine revolution making wines of great concentration and accessible style with grapes like Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc. These wines from the Saumur Appellation are Saumur Blanc 2021 and Saumur Rouge Les Moulins 2021. The former is a classic Loire Chenin Blanc that expresses a perfumed nose and palate of citrus fruit, lifted by beautiful acidity and finishing clean. The Domaine Guiberteau Saumur Rouge Les Moulins 2021 is a 100 percent Cabernet Franc, farmed organically into a stunning gourmet wine, exploding with ripe red fruit.
Rudolf Fürst is a leading family estate based in Germany’s Franconia (Franken) region where it makes top Riesling and Pinot Noir wines. Rudolf Fürst Spätburgunder Tradition 2020 is the estate’s high quality Pinot Noir, tasting of ripe cherries, blueberry and cinnamon laced with fresh mint.
Wine Park has been importing high quality Mosel Valley wines from St. Urbans-Hof owned by Nik Weis and has just added Pinot Noir 2019 which ripples with cherries, spice from the producer with the hallmark Germanic minerality.
And finally, there’s a refreshing modern style white wine from the famous northern Portugal appellation of Vino Verde where the organic winemaker Quinta do Ameal specializes in growing the Loureiro grape. This little known grape plays a vital role in the Vino Verde white blend (with Albariño grapes). By itself it makes a citrusy wine, crackling with bright acidity and a clean finish.
Reflecting on the new wines launch, Vishal Kadakia shares how he discovered these wines, saying, “I always believe in adding wines to my portfolio that I would myself love to drink. I tasted the Portuguese white wine at a New York bar and was struck by the unique taste and food friendly character. I also realized that this wine and the region it came from, was not known to Indians.’
“I first tasted Domaine Guiberteau’s wines at an organic wine show in Montpellier last year. I simply adored the purity of these wines that deserve to be spoken about more. The Pinot Noir from Rudolf Fürst impressed me for how it highlighted the Germanic style of this grape. On the same trip, I tasted Nik Weis’s Pinot Noir (known as Spätburgunder in Germany) with him and decided immediately to add it to my red collection.”
All of the five wines are now available across Mumbai and at the Wine Park Experience Store, near JW Marriott Sahar Andheri East.
