Marqués de Riscal selected World’s Best Vineyard 2024
Bodegas De Los Herederos Del Marqués De Riscal is a premier wine producer of Rioja, which was established in 1858 and is known for its amazing wines and also its iconic architecture. No visit to Rioja can be complete without visiting their vineyard and the hotel property.
As part of the Marriott hotel chain’s Luxury Collection the Frank Gehry designed structure, which opened in 2006, is very intriguing with tilted walls, zigzagged windows, high ceilings and lots of colour in all its 61 rooms (including 10 suites). Two contrasting wings are joined by a raised glass corridor through which sunlight streams through. Views from the lounge terrace offer the vineyards of Rioja on one side and the gastronomic Basque Country on the other, with a Michelin-starred fine dining restaurant to boot.

The panel in each region is made up of sommeliers, wine journalists, travel experts and lovers of wine who travel frequently – each of whom have 7 votes. Some regions contain more than one country. The decision as to how the world is divided up is left to the organiser and Academy Chairs and is debated annually. Unfortunately, the rules are framed such that a country like India which is not on the destination of many of the judges is at a competitive disadvantage.
